LAKELAND COUNTY TERRIERS The Home of "Tippanagh" Irish Terriers
The Irish Terrier, from their humble beginnings as the Irish farmers workmate,to the horrors of the trenches in world war 1 and their near extinction to our companions of today, this is a breed of dog that will instantly capture your heart and their lifelong adoration.
A breed that thinks every child is a leprechaun and greets every day as a new adventure.
From the cold black nose,to the tip of their red tail they personify playfulness, but to look an Irish Terrier in the eye is to experience the depth of their devotion.
As a companion and playmate there is no better."Come play with me for I am the God of joy and laughter your troubles will be lessened, watch me and you will be happy again" As a confidante, they offer the sanctity of a confessional.
The Irish Terrier is not for everyone, but for those lucky enough to have one in their life have experienced true friendship, devotion and laughter.

Welcome to our Irish Terrier website
THE HOME of "TIPPANAGH"IRISH TERRIERS We are the only Show-dog & Breeders of Irish Terriers in Co.Fermanagh. We are based in a rural location 15 miles from Enniskillen and 6 miles from Belleek/Ballyshannon Border. We are members of The All Ireland Irish Terrier Club and The UK Irish Terrier Association. Our dogs are raised 1st as family pets and then if suitable we bring them on to the show scene, but they are always our pets and friends 1st. We have had a very successful time at shows and the Irish Terrier is a wonderful breed both by nature and temperament.
This breed is full of life, active, independent and cheerful.Irish Terriers are exceptionally good with people and are legendery in their loyalty to their owners. They adore children and come into there own when playing with children.(Children should not be left unsupervised,as with any breed of dog) Infants and toddlers generally do not make good dog owners!! Responsible older children however, are the perfect companions for an Irish Terrier. It is said that whatever mischief one misses, the other will surely find. The Irish Terrier is full of fun,but not hyper-active.He is content to sleep whilst you relax, or join in as you watch T.V. or if a long walk is to your liking there is nothing he,d rather do. Part of his charm is his ability to be everything all at once: a happy dog, a quiet companion, a protecter of the home, naughty beyond belief--and so endearingly apologetic...All in All The Irish Terrier is indeed the all-round dog.
Any dog we breed will always have a home here with us without exception.

"The Irish Terrier is perhaps the finest dog on earth...He has a heart three sizes to big for his shaggy body,a heart that is as white and clean as that of a knight-errant. He is no bully, will will not flinch one hundredth of an inch from a fight that is forced upon him,be the odds ever so impossible against him.
There is a psychic side of the Irish Terrier too, found in almost no other dog, A touch of of the mysticism of the land of his ancestory."
Albert Payson Terhune. 1872-1942
Once you get to know an Irish Terrier well enough to get acquainted with his personality, to recognise the depth of his love, to behold his proud almost swaggering carriage, his catlike grace of movement and blinding speed and coordination of muscle, and his magnificent courage and heart, and to see his unnerving inteligence displayed again and again, you will be convinced that the Irish Terrier is one of the most magnificent of God's creations in the dog family.

What Is An Irish Terrier ?
The Irish Terrier is the dare-devil of the dog world. He,s an active, lithe, sturdy relatively calm dog with a steady temperament. He has a proud appearance and an air of self-assurance.He has dark brown eyes with a piercing intelligent expression. He is a whole coloured animal, colour may be bright red,red-wheaten or golden red.His ears are naturally folded. The tail may be docked to 2/3 of its length where allowed but more commonly carries a full tail which should not curl over the back to one side or the other. He is long in the body and around 18" high at the shoulder tops. The Irishmans coat is dense and wiry to keep him waterproof, with a woolly undercoat to keep him insulated.Puppies are often fluffy with a lot of black on the face which soon disappears.Whilst puppy coats shed, the adults do not,but requires brushing and combing weekly and should be hand stripped twice yearly. The longer hair on the face and legs are called "furnishings" and should be combed weekly to prevent matting.Like all terriers these dogs do not need regular bathing as this destroys the coats natural oils.A dog that has gotten dirty should be dry brushed and combed.
